Anambra State cemented its growing reputation as one of Nigeria’s most forward-leaning digital hubs after clinching four major honours at the 13th National Council on Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (NCCIDE), held in Jos between 8 and 12 December.
The annual gathering — hosted this year at the Crispan Suite & Event Centre, Rayfield — drew federal and state delegates, industry leaders and innovators to assess progress in the country’s fast-shifting digital landscape. Centred on the theme “Accelerating Inclusive Digital Transformation: Bridging Gaps and Fostering Sustainable Growth Through Innovation”, the meeting featured a peer-review session in which states presented recent advances in digital governance and infrastructure.
Anambra emerged as one of the standout performers, taking the top prize for Best Overall State in ICT Development, as well as Best State in ICT Human Capital Development. It also secured Second Runner-Up positions in both Infrastructure Development and eGovernment Implementation.
Officials attributed the showing to the digital-first blueprint championed by the Governor, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo, whose administration has prioritised broadband expansion, e-government systems and tech-driven reforms as part of its ambition to build a “Smart Mega City”.
Receiving the awards on the Governor’s behalf, Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, Managing Director of the Anambra State ICT Agency, praised the State’s “clear vision and consistent support from the top”, describing the recognition as “a validation of Governor Soludo’s commitment to technology-led development”.
“This honour reflects the hard work and collaboration of the entire Solution Team,” Mr Agbata said. “Anambra remains deliberate about using technology to improve lives, strengthen institutions and expand opportunities.”
The feat marks the second time in three years that Anambra has walked away with four national distinctions at the NCCIDE, underscoring what officials say is sustained improvement in digital capacity, public-sector innovation and human-capital development.
With its latest haul, Anambra strengthens its claim to being among the country’s most dynamic laboratories for technology-driven governance — and a case study in how coherent policy, political will and long-term planning can accelerate inclusive growth.
