Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has announced his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the All Progressives Congress (APC), following a meeting with political stakeholders at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
The governor disclosed that the decision came after a recent visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during which he briefed the President on the political situation in Rivers State. According to Fubara, the discussions with the President and subsequent consultations with state stakeholders reinforced the need to realign politically.
Fubara stated that he and his supporters “have every reason to identify with Mr. President,” noting that he “wouldn’t still be here as the Governor without him.” He added that President Tinubu has been consistently supportive, a factor that contributed to the decision to join the ruling APC.
The governor emphasized that the move is motivated by a desire to show gratitude to the people of Rivers State and to strengthen cooperation with the Federal Government. “With the people’s trust, the only way to show our gratitude is to support him completely and wholly,” he said.
The development marks a significant realignment in Rivers State politics, coming amid ongoing discussions about governance and stability in the state.
