AWKA, NIGERIA — St. John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu, has added yet another prestigious honor to its rapidly expanding trophy cabinet after being crowned the Private Secondary School of the Year at the 2026 Anambra Man of the Year Awards. The landmark recognition comes on the heels of international acclaim for the institution, which recently made global headlines after defeating elite secondary schools from across the United Kingdom to capture the inaugural UK–Nigeria Debate Championship.
Owned and guided by the vision of Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, widely known as Fr. Ebube Muonso, the Ukwulu-based science college has quietly established itself as one of the most formidable centers of academic excellence and competitive skill in Nigeria. The latest award reflects years of sustained effort, rigorous discipline, and a track record that spans national leadership competitions, STEM innovation challenges, and elite public speaking tournaments both at home and abroad.
In recent years, the institution has demonstrated exceptional versatility across multiple academic disciplines. Beyond its historic debate victory against British contenders, the school produced two students who were selected to represent Nigeria at the World Schools Debating Championships in Kenya, while also claiming top honors at the National Inter Senior Secondary Schools E-Debate Championship in Abuja. Its public speaking credentials were further validated when one of its students emerged as Nigeria’s Head Girl of the Year at the National Head Girls Competition held in Lagos.
