Acclaimed Ghanaian actor and entrepreneur John Dumelo has shed light on his decision to step away from acting, citing agriculture as a more rewarding and impactful pursuit. Dumelo, who once graced the screens in some of Ghana’s most popular films, revealed that he left the entertainment industry to focus on farming, a venture that has transformed his life in ways he never imagined.
In a candid statement, Dumelo expressed that the film industry was financially unsustainable for him, prompting him to seek a more stable and fulfilling career path. His passion for agriculture, coupled with a strong desire to fight hunger in his community, led him to invest in large-scale farming.
“The film industry was not enough to sustain me. Besides, I had a deep passion for agriculture and a desire to eliminate hunger in my community and beyond through my products. This passion led me to venture into poultry farming, yam cultivation, ginger, pepper, and cereal production,” he explained.
Dumelo’s transition into farming was not just a personal decision but a mission to create a self-reliant future for himself and those around him. He strongly believes that agriculture holds the key to solving unemployment and economic hardship, especially among Africa’s youth.
“Agriculture is more than a profession; it’s a solution. It’s the only way we can create sustainable self-employment and reduce the financial burden on our families. That’s why I encourage our youth to explore the soil, invest in farming, and contribute to building our country,” he emphasized.
His agricultural ventures have grown significantly, with Dumelo expanding into multiple sectors of farming, including livestock and cash crops. He has also been vocal about using modern farming techniques to boost productivity and ensure food security.
Despite his deep involvement in agriculture, Dumelo did not completely rule out a return to acting, but he made it clear that it would not be for financial gain.
“If I ever return to acting, it will be purely for passion because agriculture has given me more than I ever dreamed of. The soil has proven to be a bank that never fails, always rewarding the effort you put into it,” he stated.
As a strong advocate for youth empowerment, Dumelo continues to use his platform to encourage young Africans to embrace agriculture as a viable career path. He believes that by investing in farming, young people can create jobs, improve their livelihoods, and contribute to national development.
“To all aspiring young people out there, let’s embrace farming and transform our communities, one harvest at a time,” he concluded.
Dumelo’s story serves as an inspiration to many, proving that with dedication and vision, agriculture can be both profitable and fulfilling. His journey from the big screen to the farmlands underscores the power of passion and the importance of making bold career choices that align with one’s purpose.
