Davido’s recent decision to formalize his marriage to Chioma might have significant implications for his music career. Historically, Nigerian artists often experience a decline in their careers after marriage, a pattern observed with numerous celebrities over time.
For instance, Omawunmi, once more prominent than Tiwa Savage, saw her career wane post-marriage. Similarly, the duo P-Square, along with Dbanj and Tubaba (2Face) , experienced diminished success after tying the knot. Tiwa Savage herself had to divorce her husband to refocus on her career.
This trend is not due to a decline in talent but rather the additional responsibilities that marriage entails. A key factor is the loss of a hardcore female fan base for male artists. Married artists no longer attract the same fervent fan reactions, which can impact their stage presence and overall popularity. Female fans are less likely to engage with or promote their music as vigorously.
Moreover, married artists face limitations on their public behavior and lyrical content, which can affect their brand and appeal. They must avoid certain venues and situations to prevent negative publicity. Thus, the freedom that fuels creativity and audience connection is restricted.
However, this dynamic shifts when both partners are artists, as they share an understanding of the industry’s demands and challenges.
Given these observations, Davido might face a similar fate, potentially seeing his music career fade within a few years due to the constraints and changes marriage brings.
