Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare and safety of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving across the state.

Otti stated this after receiving the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier-General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, and his delegation during a visit to Abia State.

The governor said the NYSC leadership’s commendation of the state’s efforts to provide a safe, peaceful and welcoming environment for corps members was encouraging.

According to him, more than 8,800 corps members are currently serving across Abia’s 17 local government areas, with female participants accounting for a significant number of those deployed to the state.

Otti noted that the presence of thousands of young Nigerians serving in communities across the state further demonstrated Abia’s growing reputation as a peaceful and opportunity-driven environment.

He also highlighted ongoing renovations at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Umunna, Bende Local Government Area, alongside improvements in healthcare facilities across the state.

The governor said more than 340 NYSC healthcare professionals are currently serving in Abia, describing their contribution as important to the state’s efforts to strengthen primary healthcare delivery.

Otti further announced that the second phase of the renovation of the NYSC Orientation Camp would commence immediately, as part of the government’s continued investment in infrastructure and the welfare of corps members.

He assured that his administration would continue to support initiatives that make Abia safer, more conducive and attractive to young Nigerians serving under the NYSC scheme.

The governor said the state remained committed to positioning Abia as a model of safety, service and sustainable progress.
