Youths In Their Hundreds Join The #EndSARS Movement In Awka

Hundreds of youths are currently marching around major streets of Awka, Anambra State’s capital city, in solidarity with the #EndSARS national protests.

Many wore black t-shirts with several inscriptions, and also carried banners and hand-made posters with different messages.

Others mounted on cars, recounting experiences with SARS as they marched on.

The #EndSARS movement lately became a national campaign against the Special Anti-robbery Squad, a Nigerian police detachment that specializes in fighting crimes like kidnapping and armed robbery.

Nigerians, especially youths, home and abroad are calling for the scrapping of the unit because of alleged anti-human activities including extrajudicial killings, torture and rape.

Some analysts are however calling for the reforms of the mode of operations of SARS.

President Muhammadu Buhari was quoted in the media earlier as saying that he has heard the concerns of the #EndSARS protesters, and would pass the concerns on to the Inspector General of Police.

The NNPC Ltd/ Seplat Energy Joint Venture (JV) partnership has conducted a medical outreach, providing free eye health services to individuals with visual impairments in Ohaji/Egbema community of Imo State.

Through its “Eye Can See” programme, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, the JV dispensed more than 10,000 reading glasses and successfully performed 639 eye surgeries, including cataract removals, for host community members who otherwise had limited access to such vital medical services.
