LAGOS, Nigeria – July 30, 2026: Ssonic Petroleum Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to developing the Okoroma Field in line with global best practices after securing Petroleum Prospecting Licence (PPL) 2A29 during the 2025 Nigeria Licensing Round conducted by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
In a statement issued by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ssonic Petroleum Limited, Dr. Ifeoma Douglas, the company described the award as a major milestone that comes with significant responsibility to deliver sustainable value to stakeholders and contribute to Nigeria’s energy security.
According to Douglas, the successful acquisition of the licence represents more than a commercial opportunity, but a mandate to develop the Okoroma Field with the highest standards of safety, operational excellence, environmental stewardship, and fiscal responsibility.
She said the project is expected to support the Federal Government’s objectives of increasing domestic gas utilisation, strengthening energy security, promoting industrial growth, and creating long-term value for shareholders while delivering tangible benefits to host communities.
Douglas commended the Ssonic Petroleum team for its technical expertise, discipline, and dedication throughout the licensing process, noting that the achievement reflects months of rigorous preparation and collaboration.
She also expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) for conducting what she described as a transparent, competitive, and merit-based licensing round.
The CEO further thanked the company’s partners, financiers, advisers, regulators, and other stakeholders for their confidence in Ssonic Petroleum, while assuring host communities of early, transparent, and continuous engagement throughout the field development process.
According to her, community engagement will focus on promoting local content, developing indigenous capacity, creating employment opportunities, and delivering meaningful socio-economic benefits.
As the company moves into the development phase of the project, Douglas outlined four strategic priorities that will guide implementation. These include safe and efficient field development from subsurface evaluation through to first oil and gas production; environmentally responsible operations designed to minimise emissions and protect ecosystems; strengthening local content through increased participation of Nigerian professionals and businesses; and maintaining financial discipline while attracting strategic investment partnerships.
