Nigeria’s drive toward sustainable development and inclusive economic growth has received a major boost as the Rural Electrification Agency signed two strategic partnerships aimed at transforming livelihoods through clean energy, agriculture, and youth innovation.
The agreements, announced by Abba Aliyu, reflect a growing effort to position renewable energy as a catalyst for social and economic impact across communities.
One of the partnerships, signed with the Nigerian Commodity Exchange, will support the integration of renewable energy into agro-processing, commodity storage, and trade systems. The initiative is expected to strengthen food security, reduce post-harvest losses, improve farmers’ incomes, and increase opportunities for non-oil exports.
According to Aliyu, access to reliable clean energy can help rural farming communities preserve produce, expand processing capacity, and retain more value within local economies.
The second agreement, with Young Innovators of Nigeria, focuses on empowering young Nigerians through technology and innovation. Through the Technology Ecosystem Dialogue (TED), the collaboration will encourage innovation in clean energy, smart mobility, entrepreneurship, STEM education, and digital skills development.
The initiative is expected to create new opportunities for youth participation in Nigeria’s growing green economy while fostering innovation-driven solutions to national challenges.
Aliyu emphasized that energy access should no longer be seen only as electricity provision, but as a tool for community transformation and economic inclusion.
He noted that when energy supports sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, technology, and enterprise simultaneously, it creates lasting developmental impact capable of improving lives and strengthening local economies.
