Legal practitioner and dispute resolution expert Tunde Fagbohunlu has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Africa Construction Law, shortly after being named among the Africa Arbitration Academy’s “Africa’s 20 Arbitration Powerlist 2026.”
Fagbohunlu, a Partner at Aluko & Oyebode, described the recognitions as unexpected and expressed gratitude to both institutions for acknowledging his contributions to the dispute resolution sector.
In a statement, he humorously remarked that the honours appeared to suggest he had attained “veteran status” within the field of dispute resolution.
Speaking more seriously, however, he commended the roles played by Africa Construction Law and the Africa Arbitration Academy in strengthening Africa’s dispute resolution ecosystem.
According to him, both organisations have contributed significantly through training programmes, mentorship, conferences, publications, and thought leadership initiatives aimed at building capacity across the continent.
He noted that areas such as construction and infrastructure disputes, energy projects, investor-state relations, commercial arbitration, and cross-border dispute management are becoming increasingly important to Africa’s economic and legal development.
Fagbohunlu said he accepted the recognitions with humility and viewed them as a reminder of the continued work required to strengthen legal and dispute resolution institutions across Africa.
He also expressed appreciation to colleagues, professional associates, and younger practitioners in the legal industry, whose contributions and optimism, he said, continue to inspire confidence in the future of African dispute resolution.
