Nairobi, Kenya — Kenya and Nigeria have reaffirmed their commitment to deeper cooperation in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector following high-level talks held during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi.
Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, William Kabogo Gitau, hosted Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, for a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties in digital innovation and technology.
According to Kabogo, discussions centered on expanding collaboration between the two countries in areas including innovation, digital transformation, knowledge exchange, and regional cooperation to support Africa’s technological advancement and economic integration.
During the meeting, Tijani reportedly praised Kenya’s achievements in technology development and digital infrastructure, particularly the country’s ongoing 100,000-kilometre national fibre connectivity programme, which is expected to improve internet access and digital inclusion across the country.
Kabogo also reiterated remarks made by Kenyan President William Ruto during the opening of the summit, emphasizing that Africa’s development should be driven by Africans through the strategic use of local resources, talent, and innovation.
The Kenyan ICT chief expressed optimism about continued engagement with Tijani, noting that stronger cooperation between Kenya and Nigeria could help accelerate digital growth and broader economic development across the African continent.
