Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has described the maiden matriculation ceremony of the Ebonyi State University of ICT, Science and Technology as a landmark achievement in the state’s drive toward educational and technological advancement.
The ceremony, held in Oferekpe-Agbaja, formally ushered in the pioneer students of the institution, marking the beginning of what the governor called a bold vision to establish a world-class centre for innovation, science, and technology.
Speaking at the event, Governor Nwifuru said the establishment of the university underscores his administration’s commitment to positioning Ebonyi State at the forefront of the digital revolution. He noted that the institution is designed to equip young people with the skills needed to become innovators, entrepreneurs, and job creators in an increasingly technology-driven world.
“This ceremony signifies the birth of a vision to build a citadel of learning that will prepare our youths for the future,” he said.
The governor congratulated the pioneer students, describing them as trailblazers whose role would shape the foundation and legacy of the institution. He urged them to uphold discipline, dedication, and academic excellence throughout their studies.
He also commended the host community of Oferekpe-Agbaja for its contribution, particularly the donation of land for the university, noting that such sacrifice would benefit generations to come.
Governor Nwifuru reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to developing the institution through infrastructure expansion, manpower development, and scholarship programmes, in line with his government’s People’s Charter of Needs agenda.
When fully developed, he said, the university is expected to emerge as a centre of excellence in ICT, science, and technology, providing innovative solutions not only for Ebonyi State but for Nigeria and the global community.
The event marks a significant step in the state’s broader efforts to invest in education, innovation, and human capital development as key drivers of sustainable growth.
