Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has called for a renewed commitment to strategic political engagement in the South East, emphasizing the need for the region to reclaim its influence in Nigeria’s national decision-making process.
The governor made this known while hosting the leadership and members of the City Boy Movement, a coalition of young professionals, entrepreneurs, and grassroots mobilisers backing the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The delegation was led by its South East Coordinator, Obinna Iyiegbu.
Discussions during the meeting focused on the role of Ndi Igbo within Nigeria’s political structure and the urgent need for the South East to return to pragmatic and alliance-driven politics.
Governor Mbah noted that historically, the Igbo people were known for their strategic approach to politics, prioritizing collaboration and national relevance over sentiment. He stressed that this legacy of building alliances across regions must be revived to secure the region’s interests.
According to him, recent years have seen the South East experience increasing political fragmentation, resulting in reduced influence at the centre where key national decisions are made.
“Strategic politics requires realism, objectivity, and a clear understanding of the broader national landscape,” Mbah stated, urging stakeholders to adopt a more analytical and forward-looking approach.
