Abia State Governor Alex Otti has offered to supply electricity to Enugu State through Geometric Power, describing the initiative as a cost-effective and faster alternative to building a new power generation plant. The governor said the move could help Enugu achieve a stable 24-hour electricity supply, a critical factor for industrial growth and economic development.
Speaking on the proposal, Governor Otti noted that Geometric Power took nearly 20 years to produce its first electricity. He emphasized that Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah would not need to endure such a prolonged delay. By expanding the existing Geometric Power infrastructure to Enugu, electricity could be delivered more quickly, efficiently, and at a lower cost, benefiting residents and businesses in both states.
Governor Otti stressed that reliable electricity is vital for attracting industries, boosting productivity, and creating jobs in the Southeast. He explained that uninterrupted power supply would reduce the high costs of running generators, encourage private sector investment, and stimulate economic activities across manufacturing, commerce, and services. The initiative could also enhance regional cooperation, as states leverage shared infrastructure for mutual development.
“This proposal is not just about lighting homes; it is about powering industries, creating jobs, and accelerating economic growth in the Southeast,” Governor Otti said. “It is an opportunity to provide Enugu residents with modern electricity while promoting regional integration and economic prosperity.”
Economic analysts note that a steady power supply could increase business efficiency, attract both local and foreign investments, and boost state internally generated revenue. In addition, industries could expand operations, leading to higher employment rates and improved standards of living for residents.
