The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, has called for stronger collaboration among African nations to drive a fundamental transformation of the continent’s energy landscape, stressing that energy has become a critical factor in global peace, security, and economic stability.
Ojulari made this call at the Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES) 2026, where he delivered remarks on behalf of NNPC Limited while welcoming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Adama Barrow of The Gambia, and other high-level dignitaries, industry leaders, and international stakeholders.
In his address, the NNPC chief emphasized that energy is no longer confined to being a standalone economic sector but has evolved into a strategic instrument that underpins global cooperation, development, and geopolitical balance. He noted that Nigeria occupies a central position in this evolving global energy order, particularly in shaping Africa’s contribution to the world’s energy transition.
Ojulari urged African countries to move beyond fragmented national approaches and instead pursue a coordinated continental strategy aimed at redesigning Africa’s energy architecture. According to him, such a strategy must be anchored on three core priorities: ensuring broad energy accessibility for populations and industries, maintaining affordability to support economic growth, and advancing sustainability to safeguard the needs of future generations.
He explained that striking a balance among these priorities would enable Africa to unlock inclusive development, reduce energy poverty, and strengthen regional stability. Ojulari further stated that a resilient and well-structured energy system would position the continent as a key driver of global prosperity in an era of transition.
Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to leadership, the NNPC Group CEO said the country is prepared to spearhead efforts toward a more integrated, peaceful, and prosperous energy future for Africa, leveraging its vast energy resources, policy reforms, and growing international partnerships.
