The SERAS Africa Sustainability Awards 2025 has been described as a milestone edition that reinforces Africa’s growing commitment to sustainability, responsible business, and community-driven impact.
Founder and Chief Executive Officer of TruCSR Consulting, Ken Egbas, hailed the 2025 awards as a triumph of vision, perseverance, and action, tracing the platform’s evolution from modest beginnings to becoming one of Africa’s most influential sustainability recognitions.
“Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world,” Egbas quoted futurist Joel A. Barker, setting the tone for the celebration.
From Street Hawker’s Dream to Continental Platform
According to Egbas, the journey of the SERAS Awards began as a personal vision rooted in humble beginnings.
“The SERAS Africa Sustainability Awards began as a dream born from a young street hawker’s desire to support his mother and uplift others in similar circumstances,” he said.
That dream took form in 2003 with the founding of a public relations consulting practice centred on encouraging organisations to pursue profit with purpose. By 2007, the first SERAS Awards ceremony had taken place.
“The early pioneers saw sustainability not as a Western ideal, but as an African necessity,” Egbas said.
A Continental Footprint of Impact
What began in Nigeria has since grown into a pan-African platform, drawing participation from organisations across Kenya, Botswana, Nigeria, Malawi, Ghana, Rwanda, and beyond.
“This platform has showcased powerful stories of transformation,” Egbas said. “Stories of businesses and organisations choosing impact, community development, and environmental responsibility.”
Record-Breaking 2025 Edition
The 2025 edition shattered previous records and set new benchmarks for African sustainability awards.
“This year, we recorded 325 entries across 17 Sustainable Development Goals categories, selected an overall winner with the highest score in 19 years, and achieved record attendance at the awards ceremony held on November 29,” he announced.
The official SERAS website also witnessed unprecedented traffic, reflecting growing interest from businesses, partners, and the public.
“We pushed boundaries, provided corporate Africa with a mirror to reflect on both progress and shortcomings, and reinforced a culture that values compassion, competitiveness, profitability, and purpose,” Egbas said.
“This milestone is not just about longevity; it is about legacy.”
Looking Ahead to 2026
Egbas disclosed that the upcoming 20th edition of the awards in 2026 will place renewed emphasis on urgency and action.
“Africa must rise intentionally,” he said. “Sustainability must be our anchor, our compass, and our opportunity.”
He noted that beyond metrics, it is human impact that truly defines sustainability.
“It’s the child in school. The farmer doubling her yield. The patient regaining sight. The community accessing clean water. The graduate finding hope,” he said. “These are the stories that matter.”
Tribute to Stakeholders
Egbas concluded with heartfelt appreciation to contributors across the ecosystem.
“To our judges, auditors, partners, participating organisations, and sustainability professionals—we honour you. Thank you for choosing impact over excuses, action over complacency, and hope over indifference,” he stated.
He added that with SERAS Africa Sustainability Awards 2025 now concluded, another chapter has been written in Africa’s sustainability story.
“Congratulations to all our winners and to all of Africa. Together, we are building a sustainable future.”
