The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has reaffirmed its commitment to developing and modernizing downstream infrastructure across the country to enhance efficiency and foster collaboration within the oil and gas sector.
The Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC Ltd, Engr. Bayo Ojulari, gave the assurance on Monday at the opening ceremony of the 2025 OTL Africa Downstream Energy Week held in Lagos.
Speaking on the conference theme, “Energy Sustainability: Beyond Boundaries & Competition,” Ojulari said that competition alone could no longer guarantee progress in the energy sector. He stressed that the industry must now embrace collaboration, sustainability, and resilience as the new drivers of efficiency and long-term growth.
“At NNPC, we are committed to deploying additional infrastructure across the oil and gas value chain while revamping our existing downstream facilities nationwide,” Ojulari said.
“These assets will be accessible to partners seeking to store and transport products, thereby supporting strategic alliances and collaboration within the downstream sector.”
Ojulari noted that ongoing reforms in the petroleum industry — driven by strategic government policies, fiscal incentives, and transparent regulatory frameworks under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) — have created an enabling environment for expansion and investment in the downstream segment.
He added that the evolving energy landscape calls for new skill sets and increased investment in emerging areas such as Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), and mini-LNG projects, which are essential to achieving Nigeria’s energy transition goals.
The GCEO also challenged participants at the conference to explore opportunities for cross-sector partnerships and innovative business models that promote decarbonization, sustainability, and economic value creation.
“This is the time to redefine our energy systems in ways that are both profitable and sustainable,” he said. “We must go beyond competition to embrace collaboration and innovation as pathways to shared growth.”
The OTL Africa Downstream Energy Week is regarded as Africa’s leading downstream and midstream energy event, bringing together international organizations, policymakers, regulators, development agencies, operators, service providers, and consumers across the energy value chain.
