In a significant move to bolster data security practices, the NDPC delegation, led by National Commissioner Dr. Vincent Olatunji, engaged in high-level discussions with the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT). This institution is a pivotal player in China’s telecom and digital economy sector and operates under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The meeting focused on sharing insights and strategies related to data security best practices, examining China’s comprehensive data security laws, and exploring robust management systems and standards. CAICT detailed their structured implementation framework, which includes industry-specific and provincial responsibilities. They also highlighted the challenges associated with unstructured data and centralized data transfers. Emphasizing the need for a skilled workforce, CAICT underscored the importance of talent development, supporting sector-specific standards, and addressing the talent supply and demand gap.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to developing a unified data transaction platform and fostering multilateral agreements to facilitate seamless data exchanges, marking a step forward in championing privacy rights and enhancing global data security standards.
