Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has reaffirmed Enugu State’s commitment to transforming education and child wellbeing through investments in smart learning infrastructure and integrated healthcare services.
The governor disclosed this following a meeting with former Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, in Enugu, where both leaders discussed the future of education, healthcare and sustainable development within the state.
According to Mbah, discussions centred on the Smart Green solar-powered schools initiative, a programme currently being implemented across the 260 wards in Enugu State. The initiative aims to provide modern learning environments while incorporating healthcare support services for children.
The governor said the model is designed to ensure that access to education is strengthened alongside improved wellbeing outcomes for pupils.
Mbah also expressed appreciation for Osinbajo’s recognition of Enugu State’s investments in education, noting that the former vice president acknowledged the state’s education allocation as one of the highest budgetary commitments by any state government in Nigeria.
The governor described the commendation as an endorsement of the administration’s long-term strategy to prioritise education, innovation and human capital development.
“His commendation further reinforces our resolve to continue investing in a future driven by knowledge, innovation and opportunity for every child in Enugu State,” Mbah stated.
The Smart Green Schools project forms part of the state government’s broader efforts to modernise public education through renewable energy solutions, technology-driven learning and improved access to social services.
The initiative is expected to strengthen learning outcomes while addressing wider developmental challenges affecting children, particularly in underserved communities.
The meeting between Mbah and Osinbajo comes amid growing national conversations around improving educational quality, healthcare delivery and sustainable infrastructure across Nigerian states.
