Vice President Kashim Shettima has emphasized the need for stronger ties between the federal government and traditional institutions, highlighting their pivotal role in national unity and stability. During his visit to Ningi Emirate in Bauchi State on Friday, VP Shettima reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to engaging royal fathers as essential stakeholders in national development.
Addressing the Emirate, the Vice President extended his condolences for the passing of the late Emir of Ningi, HRH Alhaji Yunusa Muhammed DanYaya, and congratulated his successor, HRH Alhaji Haruna Yunusa Danyaya. He praised the late Emir for his 88 years of dedicated service and noted his significant contributions both as the longest-reigning Emir in Ningi’s history and through various roles before his enthronement.
“The traditional institutions are not only the custodians of our cultures, values, and history but also the very backbone of our society,” VP Shettima said. He underscored that these institutions play a crucial role in maintaining national unity and societal stability, reflecting on their role in reinforcing the essence of Nigeria’s diversity.
VP Shettima expressed his deepest condolences on behalf of President Tinubu and the entire federal government, offering unwavering support for the new Emir’s reign. “We stand with you as partners in progress, and our doors are always open to our traditional rulers for wisdom, guidance, and advice,” he assured.
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State welcomed the Vice President’s visit, commending Shettima for his humility and respect for all individuals. Governor Mohammed described the visit as a “double-edged sword,” acknowledging it as a gesture of condolence and congratulations to the new Emir.
The new Emir of Ningi, HRH Alhaji Haruna Yunusa Danyaya, expressed gratitude to VP Shettima and Governor Mohammed for their support during this transition period. He also thanked the Governor for approving his appointment as the successor to his late father.
Among the dignitaries present were Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate; Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Hon. Abubakar Y. Suleiman; and other senior government officials.
In addition, VP Shettima, representing President Tinubu, visited Kaduna State to convey condolences to the Kaduna State Government and the family of the late Hon. Justice Tanimu Zailani, former Chief Judge of Kaduna State. Shettima expressed sorrow over Zailani’s passing, noting his significant role as a judicial leader and ally of both President Tinubu and himself. He prayed for the late Justice’s eternal rest and strength for his family to bear the loss.
