ABUJA, Nigeria – July 30, 2026: The National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) has commenced technical training for the first batch of participants under The Power Force, a national programme designed to develop a new generation of skilled professionals for Nigeria’s electricity sector.
The initiative, launched under the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aims to equip 5,000 young Nigerians with the technical expertise required to support the nationwide deployment of smart electricity meters.
According to NAPTIN, the programme will provide participants with practical, hands-on training, certification by the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), and access to employment opportunities within the country’s power industry.
The institute said the initiative is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s metering ecosystem by building a skilled workforce capable of supporting the installation and maintenance of smart meters across the country.
Beyond creating employment opportunities for young Nigerians, the programme is expected to contribute to reducing estimated billing, improving electricity revenue collection, and enhancing transparency and efficiency in electricity service delivery.
NAPTIN described the programme as a significant step towards strengthening Nigeria’s power sector through capacity development and technical excellence, reaffirming its role as the nation’s foremost power training institute.
The first phase of the training programme commenced in Abuja in July 2026, with participants expected to undergo intensive technical and practical instruction before deployment to support the implementation of the Presidential Metering Initiative nationwide.
The Power Force programme forms part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to accelerate smart meter deployment, bridge the metering gap, improve customer confidence in electricity billing, and strengthen the overall performance of Nigeria’s power sector.
