The Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing digital inclusion in Nigeria following its participation in the launch of the Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D.) Programme.
The initiative, launched by the Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMoCIDE) and the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme, is aimed at improving access to affordable digital devices and internet connectivity for Nigerians, particularly young people seeking to develop skills and participate in the digital economy.
NIGCOMSAT, in a statement, described the initiative as an important step towards Nigeria’s digital future, noting that access to technology remains a critical factor in enabling learning, innovation, entrepreneurship and economic participation.
The satellite communications company said it was proud to be part of the landmark event, stressing that initiatives such as C.L.I.C.K.D. would help address some of the barriers limiting access to digital tools and opportunities.
According to NIGCOMSAT, the programme goes beyond simply providing Nigerians with digital devices, as it is also designed to support skills development, promote local manufacturing and expand economic opportunities.
The initiative will provide affordable financing options for laptops and internet-enabled devices, beginning with locally assembled laptops, to enable more Nigerians to acquire the tools required to learn, work, innovate and build businesses.
NIGCOMSAT quoted the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, as highlighting the role of responsible consumer credit in driving innovation, entrepreneurship and inclusive economic growth.
The company said improved access to digital devices and connectivity would enable more Nigerians to acquire relevant skills, work remotely, establish businesses and contribute to the Federal Government’s ambition of building a $1 trillion economy.
It noted that bridging Nigeria’s digital divide requires more than connecting citizens to the internet, stressing the importance of ensuring that people also have access to the devices and tools required to take advantage of digital opportunities.
NIGCOMSAT further emphasised the importance of collaboration among government, industry stakeholders and institutions in creating an inclusive digital economy where young Nigerians can participate meaningfully and contribute to national development.
The company said it would continue to support initiatives aimed at expanding access to technology, strengthening connectivity and equipping the next generation with the skills and tools needed to drive innovation, create jobs and accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation.
