UMUAHIA, Abia State — The Abia State Government has expressed its readiness to support the establishment of a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant by Egyptian pharmaceutical company, Utopia, as part of efforts to attract investment, create jobs and strengthen the state’s industrial base.
The Abia State Governor disclosed this after receiving a delegation from Utopia, led by Dr. Kamel Mohamed, during a meeting facilitated by Eze Apostle Gift Chibuzor Chinyere.
The Governor described the proposed investment as a significant opportunity for the state, noting that the establishment of a drug manufacturing facility would deliver benefits beyond the sale and distribution of pharmaceutical products.
According to him, the proposed plant would support local production, create employment opportunities, facilitate technology transfer and contribute to the growth of Abia State’s economy.
“I am excited about their proposal to establish a drug manufacturing plant in Abia State. Beyond selling products, this is about production, job creation, technology transfer, and boosting our State’s GDP,” the Governor said.
He assured the Egyptian company of the state government’s commitment to supporting the proposed investment, including the provision of land for the project.
The Governor also encouraged the investors to consider locating the facility within the Ukwa or Osisioma axis of the state, citing the availability of steady electricity supply from Geometric Power as an important factor that could support the operation of the manufacturing plant.
He said the proposed partnership could position Abia as a major hub for advanced pharmaceutical technology in Nigeria and the wider West African region.
The Governor further assured the investors that his administration would provide the necessary support to facilitate the successful establishment and operation of the pharmaceutical manufacturing facility.
The proposed investment is expected to strengthen Abia’s pharmaceutical and manufacturing ecosystem while creating opportunities for employment, skills development and technology transfer.
The state government said it remains focused on attracting strategic investments that can expand the productive capacity of the state, create jobs for residents and contribute to sustainable economic growth.
