The Federal Government has taken a major step toward modernising Nigeria’s security infrastructure with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance digital connectivity across police formations nationwide.
Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, announced the development following the formal agreement with the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mohammed Sheidu, alongside members of the Trust Fund’s board.
According to Tijani, the initiative is aimed at improving the operational efficiency of the Nigeria Police Force by ensuring that police stations across the country are connected to the national fibre optic backbone. The project, known as Project BRIDGE, is designed to close long-standing connectivity gaps that have limited real-time communication and data sharing among security agencies.
Under the programme, police formations will be equipped with improved data-sharing systems that enable faster information exchange and better coordination during security operations. The system is also expected to support more efficient case management processes and strengthen institutional record-keeping.
A key feature of the initiative is the integration of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence tools. These are expected to enhance incident response capabilities and support predictive analytics for crime prevention and resource deployment.
Tijani described the project as a critical component of the Federal Government’s broader digital transformation agenda, stressing that modern governance requires all public institutions—especially security agencies—to be digitally enabled and interconnected.
He noted that improving connectivity within the police system is not only about technology deployment but also about strengthening national security outcomes, enhancing public safety, and ensuring faster, more coordinated responses to incidents across the country.
The initiative reflects ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to leverage digital infrastructure to improve service delivery and modernise key institutions responsible for governance and security in Nigeria.
