Flutterwave Founder and CEO Olugbenga Agboola has said that Africa’s next phase of fintech expansion will depend heavily on building robust digital and financial infrastructure, alongside regulatory frameworks that enable innovation at scale.
Agboola shared this view during a high-level panel at CNN’s inaugural Global Perspectives Summit, where he spoke alongside Alex Okosi (Managing Director, Google Africa), Lucy Yueting Liu (Co-founder and President, Airwallex), and Serigne Dioum (CEO, MTN Group Fintech). The session was moderated by CNN’s Richard Quest and focused on the future of Africa’s tech and startup ecosystem.
According to Agboola, the continent is poised for significant fintech growth, but progress will rely on stronger collaboration between governments and private-sector players. He noted that policy environments capable of supporting cross-border innovation will be central to scaling homegrown solutions.
He reaffirmed Flutterwave’s commitment to connecting Africa to the global economy through seamless payment infrastructure. Agboola highlighted the company’s expanding partnerships—including its collaboration with Polygon—as key steps toward creating a truly borderless digital marketplace across the continent.
Agboola emphasised that industry-wide cooperation remains essential if Africa is to unlock the full potential of its rapidly growing digital economy.
