NITDA DG Hosts UN ITC Chief Adviser to Explore Collaboration on Economic Re-integration of Voluntary Returnees

The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, recently welcomed Ms. Natasha Aniekwu, Chief Technical Adviser of the International Trade Centre (ITC) at the United Nations, on a courtesy visit to the agency. The visit centered on exploring potential collaboration for the Economic Re-integration Process of Voluntary Returnees from Germany to Nigeria.

During the meeting, DG Abdullahi underscored the strategic importance of e-commerce as a focal point for collaboration, noting that it aligns seamlessly with ITC’s Inclusive Digital Entrepreneurship in the Agri-food Sector (IDEAS) project. He highlighted the critical role that e-commerce can play in empowering returnees by providing them with access to global markets and enhancing their economic integration into Nigerian society.

Ms. Aniekwu expressed her enthusiasm for the potential partnership and the opportunities it presents for supporting returnees through digital entrepreneurship, particularly in the agri-food sector. Both parties agreed on the need for continued dialogue and the development of a framework to facilitate the collaboration.

This engagement marks a significant step towards fostering economic opportunities for voluntary returnees, leveraging digital tools and platforms to ensure their successful reintegration and contribution to Nigeria’s economic growth.
