The Director-General/CEO of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, along with key members of the NIMC management team, recently paid a working visit to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare of Nigeria, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate. The purpose of this visit was to explore areas of collaboration between the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the NIMC.
This strategic meeting focused on integrating the efforts of both entities to enhance the delivery of services and ensure that every Nigerian has access to a comprehensive and inclusive identity management system. Discussions revolved around leveraging NIMC’s capabilities to support the Ministry’s health and welfare initiatives, particularly in enhancing the identification and provision of services to vulnerable populations.
In line with its commitment to inclusivity, the NIMC recently organized a Validation Workshop on Disability Inclusion Policy. The workshop aimed to ensure that the National Identity Management System (NIMS) is accessible to all citizens, particularly persons with disabilities.
During her remarks at the workshop, DG Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote emphasized the importance of validating a policy that represents a critical step forward in making the NIMS inclusive. “This policy is a testament to our dedication to ensuring that no Nigerian is left behind. It is crucial that our identity management system is accessible and caters to the needs of all citizens, especially those with disabilities,” she stated.
The NIMC’s Disability Inclusion Policy is designed to address the unique challenges faced by persons with disabilities in accessing identity management services. By creating an inclusive and accessible system, NIMC aims to provide equal opportunities for all Nigerians to benefit from the services and protections offered by a robust identity management framework.
This collaboration between the NIMC and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare marks a significant step towards a more inclusive and integrated approach to national identity management, ensuring that all citizens can participate fully in the socio-economic development of Nigeria.
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is responsible for managing the National Identity Management System (NIMS), which includes the issuance of National Identification Numbers (NIN) and National e-ID cards to all Nigerian citizens and legal residents. The NIMC is dedicated to providing a reliable and secure identity management system that supports the socio-economic development of Nigeria.
