Members of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), led by its President, Dr. Ike Neliaku, were in attendance at the 59th Inaugural Lecture of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, where scholars and public figures gathered to discuss issues of communication, leadership, and reputation management in Nigeria.
The lecture, titled “When Applause Lies: Communication, Power, and the War Between Reputation and Perception in Nigeria,” was delivered by NIPR Vice President, Professor Emmanuel Dandaura. It examined the complex relationship between public perception, communication practices, and institutional reputation in the Nigerian context.
The event drew notable attendance, including the Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, FNIPR, as well as other senior government officials, academics, and communication professionals.
Organisers described the gathering as a significant contribution to ongoing national discussions on reputation management and public trust, particularly in governance and institutional communication.
Following the lecture, members of the NIPR delegation also paid a strategic visit to the proposed University of Public Relations and Leadership (UPRL) in Gudi. The institution is expected to be commissioned in November during the World Public Relations Forum.
The visit formed part of broader preparations for upcoming national public relations activities, including the Nigerian Public Relations Week (NPRW), where stakeholders are expected to convene on industry standards, capacity building, and professional development.
Officials said the developments reflect growing institutional efforts to strengthen communication practice and leadership training within Nigeria’s public relations sector.
