ABUBAKAR SPEAKS ON COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND NEW REFORM INITIATIVES BY CAC

The Registrar General of Corporate Affairs Commission, Alhaji Garba Abubakar has reassured Nigerians that the CAC is working assiduously to ensure an end-to-end business registration solution in accordance with global best practice.

He was speaking today at a Two-Day Commerce and Industry Correspondents Association of Nigeria CICAN/CAC Retreat with the theme “COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND NEW REFORM INITIATIVES BY CAC”.

Alhaji Garba Abubakar described the Covid-19 Pandemic as challenging for the Commission as it was compelled to operate with less than 15% of its staff and suspend its service timelines to abide strictly by Government regulations on curbing the spread of the dreaded disease.

Abubakar however said that the situation gave the Commission the opportunity to re-assess its operations and bring about new innovations going forward for the growth of the economy.

The RG said the newly introduced mailing system of certificates by courier will be in place till a full deployment of end-to-end registration solution is achieved for customers to print certificates from the comfort of their homes or offices.

Speaking on the CAM BILL,2020 signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari on 24th July,2020, the CAC scribe said the new law was to amongst others strengthen the legal framework and boost activities of MSMEs in the country.

He highlighted some of the innovations in the new law, namely: Limited Liability Partnership LLP, Limited Partnership LP, Disclosure of beneficial ownership and expansion of the CAC Board amongst others.

Responding to questions on the provisions of Part C of the new law, the Registrar General said the CAC will not be autocratic in discharging its powers or target any group or association adding whatever measures taken to sanction erring group or association must have the approval of the Minister of Industry Trade and Investment amongst other processes.

Speaking earlier, the CICAN Chairman, Fred Idehai expressed confidence in the ability of the Registrar General to deliver on his mandate and described his appointment by President Buhari in January,2020 as justified.

He therefore urged him to continue to discharge his duties without fear or favor and pledged their continued support to the Commission.
