Blossom Isika, Head of Customer and Contact Center Operations at Airtel Nigeria, has announced her departure from the telecommunications company after more than 22 years in the industry.
Isika, who began her career on January 26, 2004, at the front desk of Econet Wireless at Fortune Towers on Adeyemo Alakija Street, Lagos, said she was closing what she described as an “extraordinary chapter” of her professional life.
Her career spanned several major transformations in Nigeria’s telecommunications industry, taking her through Econet Wireless, Vodafone, Vmobile, Celtel, Zain and eventually Airtel Nigeria.
Reflecting on her career journey, Isika expressed gratitude for the opportunities, challenges, lessons and relationships that shaped her professional development.
During her years with Airtel, she played a key role in customer and contact centre operations, overseeing initiatives aimed at improving customer experience and operational efficiency.
According to her, her responsibilities included driving measures that reduced repeat customer contacts, strengthened complaint-resolution processes, increased adoption of self-service platforms and contributed to the growth of Airtel’s Retail Postpaid business.
Beyond the business achievements, Isika said the most rewarding aspect of her career was the opportunity to work with and develop people.
She highlighted the growth of team members into leadership positions, the career advancement of colleagues and the relationships established with professionals across the organisation as some of the most memorable aspects of her journey.
“I had the opportunity to work alongside exceptional teams whose commitment and resilience made every success possible,” she said.
Isika also expressed appreciation to the leaders who supported her career development, as well as colleagues, partners and stakeholders who contributed to the various successes recorded throughout her career.
She particularly acknowledged the leadership of Airtel Nigeria for creating what she described as a culture of excellence and continuous growth.
Reflecting on her leadership philosophy, Isika said one lesson that had remained constant throughout her career was that effective leadership was not about making oneself indispensable, but about building people, systems and capabilities that could continue to thrive after a leader’s departure.
As she begins a new chapter, Isika said she was leaving with gratitude, confidence and excitement about the opportunities ahead.
Her departure marks the end of more than two decades of service spanning some of the most significant phases in the evolution of Nigeria’s telecommunications industry.
