Abuja, Nigeria – Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships across Africa as part of efforts to accelerate digital transformation, expand connectivity and bridge the continent’s digital divide.
The commitment was highlighted during the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) Gala Night, where the organisation’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Jane Egerton-Idehen, joined policymakers, regulators and industry leaders in discussions aimed at deepening collaboration within Africa’s digital ecosystem.
The gala, held on the sidelines of the African Telecommunications Union engagements, served as more than a networking event. It provided a platform for senior government officials, telecommunications executives and technology stakeholders to strengthen relationships and explore opportunities for greater regional cooperation in advancing Africa’s digital economy.
According to NIGCOMSAT, meaningful conversations and strategic engagements remain the foundation upon which lasting partnerships are built, noting that the continent’s digital future depends not only on policy discussions but also on sustained collaboration among governments, regulators, development partners and industry players.
During the event, Jane Egerton-Idehen held discussions with several prominent leaders in Africa’s ICT sector, including Felix Mutati, John Omo, Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Lerato D. Mataboge, Soji Maurice-Diya and Tola Odeyemi.
The engagements focused on strengthening cooperation to improve digital connectivity, encourage innovation and leverage satellite technologies to support socio-economic development across the continent.
NIGCOMSAT said the gathering reinforced a shared vision among African stakeholders to accelerate digital inclusion by expanding access to reliable broadband infrastructure and satellite-enabled communication services capable of reaching underserved and remote communities.
The company noted that satellite technology continues to play an increasingly important role in supporting government services, education, healthcare, disaster management, financial inclusion and enterprise connectivity, particularly in areas where terrestrial telecommunications infrastructure remains limited.
As Nigeria’s national satellite communications operator, NIGCOMSAT reiterated its commitment to working closely with governments, telecommunications operators, international organisations and private sector partners to deliver innovative satellite-based solutions that connect people, businesses and institutions across Africa.
Industry observers say deeper collaboration among African telecommunications stakeholders will be critical to achieving the continent’s digital transformation ambitions under initiatives such as the African Union’s Digital Transformation Strategy and broader regional connectivity programmes.
