The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) and the Chartered Institute of Power Engineers of Nigeria (CIPEN) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening collaboration on data protection and compliance within Nigeria’s power sector.
The agreement was signed at the NDPC headquarters as part of efforts to formalise the partnership between both organisations.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, said the Commission’s mandate under the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDP Act), 2023, is broad and requires strategic collaboration with stakeholders to achieve its objectives.
According to him, the Commission’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) approach is essential to driving effective implementation of the Act across critical sectors of the economy.
Dr. Olatunji noted that the partnership had already commenced through the training of CIPEN members by the NDPC, adding that the collaboration would benefit both organisations while enhancing data protection compliance in the power sector.
Also speaking, the President of CIPEN, Engr. Israel Abraham, welcomed the signing of the MoU, describing it as a significant step toward promoting stronger data protection practices within the power industry.
He expressed optimism that the agreement would be effectively implemented, noting that it marks the beginning of a more strategic and impactful partnership between the NDPC and CIPEN.
