Nigeria has reinforced its commitment to industrial growth, innovation, and economic diversification with the official unveiling of a new World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) office in Abuja, following high-level bilateral discussions between government officials and international partners.
The Honourable Minister of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment announced the development after receiving the Director-General of the World Intellectual Property Organization, Daren Tang, and his delegation for strategic talks focused on strengthening Nigeria’s industrialization agenda and expanding economic diversification efforts.
The engagement also featured the official unveiling of the new WIPO Nigeria Office in Abuja, a move expected to deepen collaboration on intellectual property development and innovation policy across the country.
Following the bilateral meeting, a stakeholder roundtable was convened with representatives from WIPO, where discussions centered on advancing Nigeria’s National Intellectual Property Policy and Strategy (NIPPS), which is currently in full implementation.
According to the Ministry, a strong and functional intellectual property framework remains a key pillar of its economic agenda, aimed at attracting sustainable investment, accelerating technological innovation, and enabling Nigerian enterprises to compete more effectively on the global stage.
The Minister emphasized that strengthening intellectual property systems is essential for supporting local innovators, protecting creative output, and positioning Nigeria as a competitive hub for industrial and technological advancement.
The establishment of the WIPO Nigeria Office is expected to further enhance cooperation between Nigeria and global innovation bodies, while supporting ongoing reforms targeted at scaling enterprise development and boosting economic diversification efforts.
