ABUJA — Nigeria and Poland have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation in the digital economy, with both countries exploring new areas of partnership in digital infrastructure, connectivity, and investment-driven technology development.
Bosun Tijani met with a Polish delegation led by Krzysztof Gawkowski, alongside Michal Cygan, in Abuja to discuss strategic areas of cooperation aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s ongoing digital transformation agenda.
Focus on infrastructure and connectivity
A key focus of the discussions was the expansion of digital infrastructure, particularly fibre-optic connectivity, which both sides identified as critical to improving internet access, service delivery, and digital inclusion.
The Nigerian side highlighted ongoing national initiatives aimed at scaling broadband penetration and strengthening the backbone infrastructure required to support a growing digital economy. Poland, in turn, expressed interest in deepening technical and investment cooperation in support of these goals.
Investment and Project BRIDGE collaboration
The talks also explored potential investment opportunities linked to Nigeria’s Project BRIDGE initiative, which is designed to enhance nationwide digital connectivity through expanded fibre deployment and improved network infrastructure.
Both countries reportedly discussed how public-private partnerships and cross-border collaboration could accelerate implementation, attract investment, and improve the sustainability of large-scale digital infrastructure projects.
Broader digital economy agenda
Beyond infrastructure, the meeting also covered broader areas of cooperation in digital innovation, including technology transfer, regulatory collaboration, and capacity building within the digital sector.
The engagement reflects Nigeria’s broader strategy to position itself as a leading digital economy in Africa by strengthening international partnerships and attracting foreign investment into its technology ecosystem.
