A collaborative artificial intelligence training initiative involving Microsoft Corporation (Microsoft) and TeKnowledge has brought together emerging developers for a two-week hackathon focused on building real-world AI solutions for the telecom industry.
The program, held as part of Microsoft AI Skills Week 2026 and the Microsoft ElevateAI Skilling Initiative (Microsoft ElevateAI Skilling Initiative), featured hands-on training in advanced AI tools, including the Azure OpenAI Service (Azure OpenAI Service) and the Semantic Kernel SDK 2.0 (Semantic Kernel SDK).
According to organizers, participants were guided through intensive mentoring sessions designed to help them design and deliver functional AI-driven prototypes within five days. The solutions developed during the hackathon were aimed at addressing operational and customer experience challenges within the telecommunications sector across Africa.
TeKnowledge (TeKnowledge), which co-hosted the initiative, said the program reflects its broader mission of developing and nurturing next-generation technology talent across Africa’s rapidly expanding digital ecosystem. The company emphasized its focus on equipping participants with practical, industry-relevant skills in artificial intelligence and cloud computing.
