The Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced steps to strengthen national cybersecurity coordination with the launch of an inaugural stakeholder engagement session aimed at establishing a Ministerial Advisory Council on Cybersecurity Coordination.
The initiative, led by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, brought together key stakeholders across cybersecurity, technology, and regulatory sectors to deliberate on building a more coordinated national cybersecurity framework.
According to the Ministry, the session marks a deliberate effort to enhance collaboration, trust, and resilience within Nigeria’s rapidly expanding digital economy.
Discussions at the meeting focused on the need for stronger institutional alignment, improved information sharing, and a unified approach to addressing emerging cyber threats. Participants also explored mechanisms for strengthening regulatory coordination and improving national response capacity to digital security challenges.
The proposed Ministerial Advisory Council is expected to serve as a platform for sustained engagement between government agencies, industry players, and technical experts, with the goal of developing a more resilient cybersecurity ecosystem.
The Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy stated that further stakeholder consultations will continue in the coming weeks as part of efforts to ensure broad participation and inclusive policy development in Nigeria’s cybersecurity strategy.
