Nigeria has officially received its long-term Civil Aviation Master Plan (CAMP), marking a major step toward overhauling the nation’s aviation sector.
The plan was presented to the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) during the opening ceremony of the Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) in Marrakech.
Spanning 20 years from 2025 to 2045, the roadmap outlines a comprehensive strategy to modernize and expand Nigeria’s aviation industry. Developed in collaboration with ICAO’s Capacity Development and Implementation (CDI) unit, the plan is designed to align with both national development goals and international aviation standards.
Key areas of focus include the modernization of aviation infrastructure, the integration of advanced technologies such as unmanned aerial systems, and improvements in safety and security compliance. The plan also promotes the development of airport-based economic zones, known as aerotropolises, aimed at boosting commercial activity around major airports.
In addition, CAMP highlights opportunities for private sector investment, particularly in Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) services and cargo infrastructure. It also places strong emphasis on sustainability and the need to build a skilled, future-ready aviation workforce.
Speaking at the Ministerial Round Table, Keyamo reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to addressing the aviation skills gap and strengthening human capital within the industry.
The unveiling of the master plan underscores Nigeria’s ambition to enhance its global aviation standing while building a modern, competitive, and resilient ecosystem in line with international best practices.
