In a major milestone for Nigeria’s aviation and digital sectors, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria> (FAAN) has partnered with MTN Nigeria> to launch free, high-speed internet services at two of the country’s busiest international airports.
The initiative, unveiled last Thursday, is now operational at:
- Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA – Terminal 2), Lagos
- Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja
The development followed a strategic visit earlier this month by MTN Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer, Karl Toriola>, and his management team to FAAN headquarters, where discussions centered on enhancing passenger experience through digital innovation.
Driving Digital Inclusion at Nigeria’s Gateways
The introduction of free Wi-Fi at the airports is expected to significantly improve passenger experience by ensuring seamless connectivity for travelers arriving, departing, or transiting through Nigeria’s busiest hubs.
Passengers will now be able to conduct business meetings virtually, respond to emails, complete online transactions, access travel updates, and communicate with family and associates without interruption.
Speaking on the initiative, Osas Amadin, Chief of Staff to the Managing Director/Chief Executive of FAAN, described the rollout as a transformative step in modernizing Nigeria’s aviation ecosystem.
“This initiative marks a significant advancement in ensuring that every passenger at Nigerian airports remains connected while waiting to board their flights or upon entering the country. Connectivity is no longer a luxury — it is an essential service,” he said.
“Our partnership with MTN Nigeria demonstrates how effective Public-Private Partnerships can accelerate national development. We are committed to shaping airports that reflect global standards and support Nigeria’s growing digital economy.”
