Governor has inaugurated a $20 million ICT manufacturing factory in Enugu State, describing it as a major boost to industrialization, job creation, and Nigeria’s drive toward economic expansion.
The Enugu Haier Factory, a Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) by in partnership with the Enugu State Government, is designed to produce smartphones, tablets, computers, smart boards, Android televisions, medical equipment, and renewable energy solutions.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Enugu, Mbah said the project aligns with his administration’s vision to reposition the state as a premier destination for investment, industry, and knowledge-driven growth.
“This partnership represents the convergence of vision, innovation, and opportunity — to generate Made-in-Enugu technologies that can compete globally while enabling us to support key local sector developments,” Mbah said.
“It means that the devices empowering our students and supporting critical industries will no longer be imported. That is strategic. It reduces costs. It ensures sustainability. And most importantly, it builds local capacity.”
The governor noted that the state government provided land and constructed the main factory structures to attract the investment. In addition, the government placed offtake orders for more than 25,000 all-in-one desktops and 300,000 tablets to power its 260 Smart Green Schools across the state.
According to Mbah, the facility will also serve as a practical training platform for vocational and technical institutions, while stimulating the growth of small and medium-scale enterprises within the technology ecosystem.
He further praised the economic policies of President , saying they have helped restore investor confidence.
“The steady inflow of foreign direct investments is an indication that the macro pressures that had hitherto prevailed have eased. We have seen the naira strengthen, our foreign reserves grow, and inflation trending downward,” he said.
Vice President of Haier Group, Sun Yongle, disclosed that the factory has a production capacity of 200,000 units annually and will employ over 100 workers in its first phase, with plans to expand to more than 200 staff.
He added that the $20 million investment marks only the first stage of Haier’s presence in Enugu, revealing ongoing discussions for an additional $30 million expansion into agriculture, mining, and transportation manufacturing.
“Haier Group is the world’s largest manufacturer of appliances, with global revenue exceeding $60 billion,” Yongle said, noting that the Enugu facility will focus on ICT products, medical equipment, and new energy solutions.
The launch follows other major investments in the state, including an electric vehicle assembly plant by Stallion Group and the Nortra Tractor Assembly Plant by ODK Group of Denmark.
Mbah called on both local and international investors to take advantage of Enugu’s business-friendly environment.
“Enugu is ready and open for business. We are building the infrastructure, strengthening institutions, and creating the right environment for investments to thrive,” he stated.
