Seasoned banker and proud son of Nnewi, Chief Anayo Nwosu, has called on Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to take active responsibility for the growth and development of their home communities.
He noted that while towns like Nnewi are widely known for their strong commercial and industrial presence, there are still urgent needs in areas such as youth empowerment, education, cultural preservation, and modernization. According to him, real progress can only happen when educated and resourceful indigenes return home with a genuine desire to contribute their time, knowledge, and resources.
“Our Youth Need Guidance and Opportunity”
Chief Nwosu expressed concern about the growing number of young people who lack access to mentorship, skills training, and positive role models. He believes that investing in young people is one of the most effective ways to secure the future of any community.
“When we guide, inspire, and support our youth, we are building confident leaders who can drive lasting change,” he said.
Preserving Our History and Culture
He also emphasized the importance of protecting local history and cultural identity. Many traditions and historical accounts, he noted, are at risk of being lost if they are not properly documented. By working with historians, elders, and cultural custodians, Nwosu supports efforts to preserve the authentic story of Nnewi for future generations.
“Our history tells us who we are and where we are coming from. Without it, we lose our sense of identity,” he added.
Constructive Engagement, Not Constant Criticism
According to Chief Nwosu, meaningful development requires cooperation between citizens and local authorities. Rather than focusing only on what is going wrong, he encouraged Nigerians to engage constructively and respectfully with community leaders to find practical solutions.
“Progress comes from dialogue, not division,” he said.
Education as a Tool for Change
Nwosu highlighted education as one of the most powerful ways individuals can give back. Supporting indigent but intelligent students through scholarships, mentorship, or school assistance can transform lives and strengthen entire communities.
“Sometimes, the children who will change our towns are not from wealthy homes, but from families that only needed a little support,” he noted.

Chief Nwosu urged Nigerians to move beyond complaints and take action, no matter how small the effort may seem.
“Don’t just criticize. Get involved. Your contribution, big or small, can shape the future of your community,” he said.
