The Ministerial Sectoral Briefing continued today with comprehensive updates from the Honorable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, and the Honorable Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo.
Sen. Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, highlighted several key achievements of his ministry. These include:
– Supporting 107,429 wheat farmers
– Releasing 42,000 metric tonnes of food to NEMA
– Distributing 58,500 metric tonnes of rice
– Fortifying crops with Vitamin A
In the past year, the ministry has concentrated on pest control, livestock management, fertilization, and mechanization. It has established partnerships with Brazil for mechanization hubs and signed MOUs with John Deere and Tata Africa for tractor assembly. The first tranche of 500 tractors is already being shipped to Nigeria.
The Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, outlined his five focus areas: safety compliance, support for local airlines, infrastructure improvement, human capacity development, and revenue generation. Key achievements in the aviation sector include:
– Remodeling the Lagos International Airport’s Arrival Hall
– Operationalizing a new international terminal
– Reactivating Lagos Airport’s second runway
– Clearing a backlog of trapped funds
– Securing an Open Skies agreement with the United States
– Reviving cargo operations
– Revitalizing Hajj terminals
– Launching aviation degree programs
These updates underscore the government’s commitment to advancing the agricultural and aviation sectors, ensuring sustainable development and enhanced service delivery for Nigerians.
