A prominent HR strategist and governance expert, Victor Banjo, Chartered FCIPD, HCIB, FERP, LDM, mni, has highlighted the professional journey and impact of healthcare and financial services executive Tosin Runsewe, praising his role in advancing access to healthcare and building strong financial institutions in Nigeria and across Sub-Saharan Africa.
In a recent post, Banjo celebrated Runsewe, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of AfyA Care, an integrated healthcare company focused on making quality healthcare more affordable and accessible across the region. He also noted Runsewe’s position as Independent Chairman of Evercare Hospital Lekki, described as Nigeria’s first large-scale private tertiary healthcare facility built in decades.
Banjo recalled first meeting Runsewe in 2008, adding that they reconnected at the eleventh edition of the HR Expo Africa Work Festival, held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
He further described Runsewe’s extensive leadership experience in the financial services sector, including his role in building one of Nigeria’s largest non-bank financial services groups, formerly known as Guaranty Trust Assurance, which operated across health insurance, property and casualty, life insurance, and asset management. He also noted Runsewe’s leadership during the company’s transitions under different ownership structures, including AXA.
According to Banjo, Runsewe began his banking career in 1992 at the former Credit Lyonnais Bank Nigeria, and later held key roles at Guaranty Trust Bank, where he served as Treasurer and contributed to pioneering initiatives in Nigeria’s money and foreign exchange markets. He also previously led the bank’s Energy Group.
Runsewe holds a Master of Science in Financial Economics from the University of London and completed the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School in 2009.
The tribute underscores his long-standing influence across banking, insurance, and healthcare development in Africa.
