Anthony Obinna Okafor, a Mechanical Engineering graduate from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Akwa, Anambra State, proudly unveils his groundbreaking creation – a solar-powered Keke Napep (tricycle) designed and built entirely from scratch.
Okafor’s solar tricycle is equipped with cutting-edge technology, allowing it to harness solar energy for propulsion. The innovation doesn’t stop there; the tricycle is adaptable, featuring recharge options through electricity or an additional solar panel on cloudy days.
During the unveiling event in Abakiliki, Ebony State, Okafor expressed his ambition to be the Elon Musk of Africa. He shared insights into the construction process, highlighting the challenges he faced due to limited resources. Despite importing materials like the axle, electronic motor, and controllers, Okafor emphasized his capability to manufacture these components locally with the right support.
The construction of the solar-powered tricycle took approximately three weeks, showcasing Okafor’s dedication and ingenuity. While the tricycle currently bears his name “Okafor,” he is contemplating a fitting name that captures the essence of his innovative creation.
