The Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) has recently deployed the Self-Assessment Tool (SAT) to the Management of Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA).

The deployment is part of the initiatives of the Federal Government of reforming public service in all its Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
According to the BPSR Director-General, Dasuki Ibrahim Arabi, the event also involved the official presentation of the Report and Award of laurel on the deployment of the SAT.

He said, “This event has been put together to present the report card of our findings showing the strengths and weaknesses of NEMSA, overall performance index the organization currently attains and recommendations for improvements as well as celebrate the agency’s worthwhile performance through an award of excellence.

“NEMSA is highly relevant in matters of reform. In today’s fast-paced, fast-changing, and increasingly competitive world, NEMSA effectiveness and efficiency is a focus of considerable attention and the outcome of the assessment is significant in the trajectory of government efforts to transform the power sector.

“We are therefore, positive and hope that as the agency take ownership of both the Report and award we are presenting here today to respond to the recommendations thereof and deepens efforts in research and development in matters relating to its mandate, an excellent opportunity is being provided to enlarge, consolidate and diversify its contributions to national growth and development.

“Permit me at this juncture to appreciate the zeal, tireless effort and commitment of the Managing Director, NEMSA to reform and ensure the agency’s systems and operations remain strong. As Bureau, we are indeed committed to this newly defined space of interaction and would be willing to collaborate with the agency to sustain notable achievements identified, support areas where work is in progress and address areas where performance is weak,”he explained.

The BPSR DG also said they are impressed by the openness, professionalism and decorum the staff of NEMSA both in Lagos and Abuja Offices exhibited throughout the duration of the exercise.

This, according to him, “is an assurance that with these rejuvenated change agents, coupled with your able guidance and support, the agency will be able to accomplish its mandates as well as break new grounds.”

Similarly, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Musapha, said the Federal Government is keen to improve its service delivery performance in a drive towards the achievement of National Vision 20:2020 in order to fulfill Nigeria’s potential.

Represented by the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, Dr. Habiba Lawal, the SGF noted that the public service administration determines the decision-making structures that select policies and priorities; it allocates the resources (financial, physical, and human) to address these priorities; it develops the frameworks, structures, and processes through which priority services are delivered; and it applies the rules and processes that enable service delivery to be managed.
He said the SAT tool serves as an organisational mechanism to check MDAs’ health status and provide a solution which, by extension, improves performance and service delivery to the public.

“As you may be aware, part of the functions of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) is to identify common constraints faced by Federal Parastatals, Agencies and Commissions in the course of their work and proffer evidence-based recommendations to address these constraints and improve performance,” Mustapha explained.

Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr. Adeleke Olorunnimbe Mamora has said that disability in any form should not be a reason for discrimination.
Dr Adeleke said this when he received in audience a delegation from Disability Right Advocate Center(AUST) led by Mr. Afolayan Muyiwa Timothy today in Abuja.
The Minister stated that assistive device assists disables to function well and live independent life irrespective of the challenges of their disability stressing that government will always ensure that physically challenged in the society are adequately supported.

Dr. Adeleke noted that the world is in the 4th Industrial Revolution where everything is technologically driven stating that assistive technology is not only limited to the disables but also to everyone who functions well in any area of life through the assistant of technology.

He said that Nigeria will continue her quest for the development of technology in all aspects of life, assistive technology inclusive and then pledged the ministry’s support to AUST.

Earlier, the Leader of the Delegation, Mr. Afolayan Timothy Muyiwa said that the Organization is seeking for collaboration with the Ministry in the development of national policy and to promote research and innovation.

He further said that partnership with the Ministry in production of locally fabricated assistive device will enhance easy access and affordability of the devices by the disables in the Country.

Speaking, Head of Program for Disability Right Advocacy Center Mrs Amaka Agwu said that the Organization is in constant collaboration with MDAs to have a just world, devoid of poverty, intolerance of all forms, discrimination and molestation.
She also added that Disability Right Advocacy Center (DRAC) facilitates full participation of vulnerable groups, especially person with disabilities in all aspects of life.
