True independence is mental, financial, emotional, intellectual, cultural, political and spiritual. Though African countries have what it seems as political independence but the reality is that, our political independence is fiasco.

To gain true independence as a continent, we must have one currency, one trade, one union agenda. African Union is not a union yet, it is just a puppet organization sponsored by Europe to keep Africa disunited. Until we achieve One Citizenship as Africa without borders and travel and trade restrictions, we are still divided. Remember, divide and rule is the strategy of the enemy to keep Africa and Africans underdeveloped and undermined. We cannot continue this way.

In Africa, we don’t have control over our governance system, no control over our financial, banking and currency systems, no control over trade and industrial systems and more.

It is a cheat for someone to print money and use paper to buy our wealth at their own price without us Africans having no right to do so.What restricts African Countries to print their own monies without external influence, decide the price for our natural and mineral resources and more.

The Time has come for the Western world to know that Africa and Africans cannot sit down to be cheated. We are educated now. We are wiser now. You can no longer fool us. If you want to buy from Africa, you must buy through a barter trade. Keep your money 💰. We will no longer accept your paper money as a medium of exchange for our sovereign wealth.

Enough is Enough. It is time for African Youths to rise up and stamp our importance in the global landscape! Africa is not poor! You cannot judge us by your paper money 💰. We will not need permission from anyone to print our own monies too. We can no longer trade our gold, diamonds, lithium, cobalt, manganese, copper, etc for paper money.

The Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh has called on stakeholders in the sporting industry to continue to collaborate with the federal government in its resolve to rid the National Youth Games (NYG) of the age cheat practice

The Minister who made the call today in Asaba, the Delta State Capital informed that age cheat in the game meant for the discovery and development of budding talents for the country at the grassroots has become a cankerworm which if not completely eliminated was capable of crippling government’s efforts at developing grassroots sports

*The issue of age cheat in sports is an area in which the Ministry requires the support and collaboration of all stakeholders. On our part, one of the innovations at this year’s edition of the Games is the introduction of the National Identity Number (NIN) as part of the verification process for athletes. Working with other stakeholders, we shall keep improving the process as we move along until we reduce to the barest minimum, the issue of age cheating in sports. We have to get this right as a nation if we hope to achieve sports excellence* he said.

Senator Owan Enoh who stated that the 7th Edition of the National Youth Games is his first major national competition as the Honourable Minister of Sports Development expressed delight that he is starting with a competition that resonates with the grassroots; where the future of our sports development belongs.

While commending Delta State Government for raising the bar in the organisation of the Games, he called on the state to move to the next level. *I implore you to continue to improve as I have been briefed that the next 3 editions would also be staged here in Asaba, Delta State* he added.

The Minister explained that the National Youth Games started over a decade ago as a veritable tool for harnessing the large pool of talents available within the country so as to secure the future of Nigerian sports.

The games according to him was designed as a level-playing ground for young athletes under the aged 15 and below to achieve optimum performance and excellence in sports as well as raising the fitness consciousness and mass participation in sports among the Nigerian youth.

He noted that this year’s edition provides a unique opportunity for us to rewrite the story of our sports in the country as it is coming at a time when we have a President who is interested in the uplifting the sports sector to the next level with the creation of a Ministry solely responsible for sports. *I can assure you that the present leadership of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu shall pay undivided attention to the development of the abundance talents in the nation. We do this not just with an eye on podium performances but for creating a career pathway for our youth and millions of job opportunities in the sports value chain*

Senator Owan Enoh expressed optimism that the quality of athletes present at the Games are capable of making our country proud anytime, anywhere; and therefore urged all concerned National Sports Federations to take advantage of the Games to evaluate their sports developmental objectives as well as further develop the identified talents to elite levels.

The Minister thanked President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his magnanimity in granting approval for the hosting of the Games.
Senator Owan Enoh also expressed his appreciation to the Government of Delta State and the entire management of Delta State Sports Commission for being a good host of the Games.

He urged participants to see their role in the Games as a stepping stone to greater heights, bearing in mind that there is joy in participation. *Do your best in your respective sports disciplines and compete clean without the use of performance enhancing substances that will eventually ruin your career in sports. I also encourage you to utilize the opportunities provided by the Games to develop enduring friendships and career paths for yourself* he added

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Sports Development Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar has stated that since its inception over ten years ago, National Youth Games has continued to attain heights in terms of standards, number of athletes, officials, sports as well as states participation.

He informed that the 7th edition of the Games will feature a total of 5,742 athletes from the 36 states of the Federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Alhaji Ismaila assured that the Ministry will continue to play its role of creating an environment environment for the development of sports in the country in line with the policy thrust of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Administration.

On the sidelines of the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), President Bola Tinubu at the weekend launched the National Talent Export Programme (NATEP) in a bid to shore up Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings.
President Tinubu was represented at the launch by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite.

The new initiative seeks to position Nigeria as an export hub for talent outsourcing in Africa following the example of India, Bangladesh, Mexico and The Philippines.
The unveiling of the programme took place at the Microsoft Office in New York, United States of America, on Friday, September 22, 2023.

A number of dignitaries from multilateral institutions and global tech giants joined the Ministers of Industry, Trade and Investment and her counterpart from the Ministry of Communications Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, on the occasion.

Among those who attended were Saadia Zahidi, Managing Director of the World Economic Forum, Mr. John G. Coumantaros, Chairman, US-Nigeria Business Council, Dr. Floriezelle Liser, President and Chief Executive, Corporate Council on Africa, Amal Hassan, Chief Executive, Outsource Global, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency, Adaora Ikenze, Meta Head of Public Policy for West and Central Africa, Ola Williams, Country Manager, Microsoft Nigeria and Ghana, who joined online, Joel Ogunsola, Chief Executive, TechDev, and Dr. Femi Adeluyi, National Coordinator of the programme.

Also present were Ursula Wynhoven, Representative of the International Telecommunication Union at the United Nations, Dr. Armstrong Takang, Chief Executive of Ministry of Finance Incorporated, Mr. Charles Murito, Director, Sub Saharan Africa – Government Affairs & Public Policy, Google, Mr. Charles Okochu, Senior Business Development Manager, Amazon AWS, and Michelle Masuzyo Nsanzumuco, AfCFTA Digital Trade Expert.

In her welcome address on behalf of President Tinubu, Dr. Uzoka-Anite noted that the National Talent Export Programme is a key national initiative that will serve as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to position Nigeria as a leading global hub for service exports, talent sourcing and talent exports.

According to the Minister, NATEP will serve as a dedicated entity to address the unique needs and challenges faced by the talent and service export industry.
The programme will lay special emphasis on enhancing competitiveness, fostering innovation, and driving sustainable growth through trade in services.

The minister further noted that NATEP is part of the strategy towards achieving President Tinubu’s agenda for job creation.

The NATEP initiative will target the creation of 1 million in-demand jobs across Nigeria, over a 5-year period.

“This initiative will do three things for us as a country. One, it will create millions of jobs for our young people over the next 5 years and beyond. Secondly, it will bring in foreign exchange that our economy needs through remittances from talents that will be exported abroad and those that will be living in Nigeria and working remotely for organisations outside Nigeria and thirdly, it will generate huge tax income for state governments,” the minister said.

In her goodwill message, the Managing Director of the World Economic Forum, Saadia Zahidi, said NATEP is a timely initiative to address the very important areas of skills and jobs for Nigeria and the world.

She stated that the WEF looks forward to partnering with Nigeria on the programme.
“This is an important programme that is coming at the right time. We at WEF stand ready to work with the Nigerian government on this great initiative.”

The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, who praised her counterpart for spearheading the NATEP initiative, said his ministry would collaborate and support the programme to ensure it delivers on the set objectives.

Dr. Tijani explained the importance of talents and in-demand workforce as critical part of the global economic structure, saying such is the reason why leading countries across the world are intentional about attracting and retaining top talents.

Other speakers at the event also acknowledged how auspicious and ambitious NATEP is as a national initiative capable of changing the economic fortunes of Nigeria just like India that attracts over $300 billion annually from talents export. The speakers commended the Federal Government on the laudable initiative and gave their commitment towards supporting the programme.

A panel discussion that took place during the event was moderated by the National Coordinator of NATEP, with Amal Hassan, Ola Williams and Adaora Ikenze serving as panelists.

The panel discussion attracted a lot of positive feedback from the participants and elicited their commitment to working together to support the NATEP initiative.
The event ended with the unveiling of the NATEP logo with the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment indicating to the world that Nigeria is ready to become a global hub for talent exports.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has extended the deadline for submission of applications and entries into the 2023 Talent Hunt through Hackathon to Saturday, September 30, 2023.

 

To this end, the deadline for application/entries into the contest, which opened on September 1, 2023, and initially closed today (September 22, 2023), has now been extended to close on the last day of September 2023.

 

The approval of the extension window by the Commission is to give ample time for more prospective and viable startups to tidy up their solutions in the required format for submission as well as to enable more upcoming technology entrepreneurs to participate in the competition.

 

The talent hunt is one of the means through which the Commission gives concrete expression to its Strategic Vision Plan 2023-2025, by encouraging the development of new technologies and indigenous content through cutting-edge research to stimulate sustainable economic growth and development in Nigeria.

 

Consequently, the Commission had invited the Tech Hubs, and Innovation-Driven Enterprises (IDEs) in Nigeria to enroll their start-ups and their solutions in the third edition of the NCC Talent Hunt Research through a Hackathon with a focus on three (3) thematic areas such as Blockchain-enabled Data Protection Solutions for Enhancing Regulatory Compliance; Assistive Technology Solutions for the Elderly and People with Disabilities, and Technology Solutions for Renewable Energy in Rural Areas.

 

The NCC Talent Hunt Research through Hackathon leverages Emerging Digital Technologies to facilitate the development of home-grown innovative solutions and local content development in the telecommunications sector while fostering economic growth and social advancement in Nigeria.

 

The competition enables the translation of novel ideas into the development of hardware/software solutions that address industry and societal challenges. The best three solutions, one from each of the three areas listed above will receive grants of N10 million each for the development of the solutions.

 

The Commission has set out eligibility criteria for those seeking to participate in the competition, which include that the Enterprise applying must provide a certificate of registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), the Enterprise must not have previously received support from the Commission, the project should have clear relevance to one of the three thematic areas above, it must provide a clear problem statement, proposed solution, and roadmap to deployment.

 

Other requirements include a proof of concept (which may also include technical feasibility of the idea with diagram, algorithm, existing models, or case studies; the solution must be novel with the applicant making a declarative statement on ownership of the intellectual property, the solution including prototype development shall be concluded within 6 months of receipt of the Grant and must propose a detailed commercialization plan of the prototype.

 

The Entry Submission format indicated that the proposal must include ideation,

Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and solution, Current Sweat Equity Investment, Product-Market Fit status, Verifiable Go-to-Market status, Growth Feasibility Assurances, Maturity Model and Timeliness; and Exist time: Disaster Recovery, where applicable

 

All applications should be made online and must follow the stipulated entry format and there is no financial cost to participating in the competition while full control and ownership of the intellectual property of the developed solutions remain with the Commission.

 

The entries must be made by a Tech Hub/Innovation-Driven Enterprise that must show evidence of the relationship with the Start-up/solution being entered, a 4-page Executive summary of the project concept, a 3-5 minute video of the pilot project, names, age, contact details, passport photos and profile of all team members and the website (if available) as well as an E-mail address of the applicant.

 

All interested and qualified enterprises should submit requested documents in a zip folder to https://ncc.gov.ng/talenthuntresearchhackathon2023 with the subject of the mail titled “Submission from <business name>” and the zipped file named after the business.

 

The Commission therefore wishes to notify members of the public that the deadline for sublimation has now been extended to September 30, 2023, when the application and enjoin the startup ecosystem to note their participation.

In 2013, Tony Elumelu and his wife embarked on a mission to replicate the opportunities they had encountered, leading to the establishment of The Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF). The couple committed $100 million to the Foundation, dedicated to playing their part in Africa’s economic transformation. This initiative embodies Africapitalism’s essence—an urgent call to the African private sector to invest in critical sectors capable of advancing humanity.

Elumelu proudly shared the remarkable impact TEF has achieved in the past decade, as documented in their recently launched independent impact report. What began as a family-funded endeavor has evolved into a profound movement. TEF has empowered over 18,000 young entrepreneurs, each receiving $5,000 in non-refundable seed capital, comprehensive business training, and world-class mentorship to enable them to scale their businesses and succeed.

Furthermore, Mr. Elumelu highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships in their mission. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the European Commission, and other key collaborators have played crucial roles in their efforts. He also announced a new partnership with the IKEA Foundation, aimed at empowering innovative African entrepreneurs whose ideas can address climate-related challenges on the continent.

Tony Elumelu left the global leaders in attendance with a powerful message. With an estimated 1.6 billion people in Africa, of which over 65% are under 30, economic engagement of this population can yield a significant demographic dividend for the continent and the world. However, failure to engage them could result in dire consequences.
