Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Flutterwave, Olugbenga Agboola, has reaffirmed the importance of stronger collaboration between Nigeria and the United States in advancing innovation, entrepreneurship and economic growth.
Agboola shared the insight following a meeting with Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States, Lateef Kayode Are, and renowned producer, artiste and entrepreneur Banky Wellington, where they exchanged ideas on Nigeria’s expanding role in the global innovation ecosystem.
According to the Flutterwave founder, the discussions centred on the growing influence of Nigerian innovation on the global stage, the opportunities for deeper U.S.–Nigeria collaboration, and the steps required to create an even stronger environment for businesses and entrepreneurs to thrive.
Agboola noted that strengthening partnerships between both countries could unlock greater investment, accelerate technology adoption, promote knowledge exchange and create new opportunities for startups and established businesses alike. He emphasized that collaboration across government, the private sector and the innovation ecosystem will be essential to positioning Nigeria as a leading hub for technology-driven economic development.
He also stressed that Nigeria’s expanding technology sector continues to attract international attention, with home-grown companies increasingly demonstrating their ability to build globally competitive products and services while addressing local and continental challenges.
The Flutterwave CEO described the meeting as a valuable opportunity to engage with leaders who share a common commitment to advancing Nigeria’s economic and technological aspirations. He expressed optimism that stronger bilateral cooperation and sustained dialogue between stakeholders would contribute to a more enabling business environment capable of supporting innovation, attracting investment and creating jobs.
Agboola concluded that Nigeria and Africa have enormous potential to play a more significant role in the global digital economy, adding that partnerships built on shared vision, innovation and enterprise will be instrumental in unlocking the continent’s next phase of growth.
