The Governor of Anambra, Soludo Charles has reaffirmed the importance of quality higher education in national development during the 16th convocation ceremony of (COOU).
Speaking as the institution’s visitor, Soludo described his attendance at the ceremony as a “great honour,” noting that the event celebrated academic excellence, hard work, and the transformative power of education. He emphasized that universities play a critical role in developing skilled manpower, shaping character, and preparing young people to contribute meaningfully to society.
A key highlight of the ceremony was the formal decoration of as the new Chancellor of COOU. Soludo expressed confidence that Kukah’s leadership, experience, and moral authority would strengthen the institution’s vision and reputation.
In recognition of academic excellence, the governor announced a ₦4 million cash award for best student who emerged as the overall best graduating student with a CGPA of 4.85 in the Economics Department. He also awarded scholarships to 37 first-class graduates to support their postgraduate studies at any public university of their choice.
Soludo urged the university to focus on producing solution-driven graduates capable of addressing real-world challenges, rather than merely awarding certificates. He called for a renewed commitment to innovation and global competitiveness within higher education institutions.
Addressing the graduating students, the governor encouraged them to embrace leadership roles with courage, creativity, and purpose, describing them as future agents of change and “beacons of hope” in society.
