Veteran journalist Sam Anokam has weighed in on the ongoing public debate surrounding comments made by Nollywood actress Doris Ogala about the performance of Abia State Governor, Sir Alex Otti.
In a statement, Anokam said he had reviewed several reactions calling on Ogala to stop speaking about the governor. However, he noted that many of the responses focused more on her past personal controversy involving Pastor Chris Okafor rather than addressing the substance of her claims.
According to Anokam, Ogala’s main argument was that she has not witnessed significant developmental projects in Abia North, her home constituency. While acknowledging that Governor Otti has been praised for infrastructure improvements in other parts of the state, Anokam emphasized that residents of Abia North deserve to see similar progress.
He added that Ogala maintained that most of the visible infrastructure in her area was carried out during the tenure of former Governor and current Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.
Anokam urged critics to respond with evidence of development projects in Abia North rather than resorting to personal attacks. He stressed the importance of focusing on issues objectively and separating public discourse from emotional reactions or past controversies.
“People have a right to their opinions,” he said, “but those opinions should be supported with facts.”
He concluded by calling for more critical and issue-based discussions, noting that emotional bias often weakens constructive public debate.
