NITDA Launches Nigerian Digital Trustmark Initiative to Strengthen Online Safety and Confidence

The Federal Government has taken a significant step toward bolstering trust and transparency in Nigeria’s digital ecosystem with the launch of the Nigerian Digital Trustmark Initiative, spearheaded by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, announced the initiative as a visionary effort aimed at making Nigeria’s digital space safer, more transparent, and more reliable for citizens and businesses alike.

According to Abdullahi, the Digital Trustmark will serve as a certification and recognition framework for digital platforms that meet the highest standards of security, data protection, and user trust, setting a new benchmark for responsible innovation and digital service delivery in the country.

He noted that as digital transformation accelerates across sectors, ensuring the safety and integrity of online platforms has become critical to building user confidence and driving inclusive economic growth.

“Trust is the foundation of any thriving digital economy, and with this initiative, we are reinforcing that foundation for Nigerians,” Abdullahi said.

The NITDA boss added that the agency remains committed to fostering a secure, innovative, and inclusive digital economy where businesses can thrive, citizens can engage confidently, and innovation can flourish within a trusted environment.

The Digital Trustmark Portal is expected to go live next week, enabling digital service providers to apply for certification and showcase their compliance with Nigeria’s evolving standards of digital trust and cybersecurity.
