NNPC Ltd. Reaffirms Commitment to Lasting Peace and Prosperity in Niger Delta

NNPC Ltd. has reiterated its dedication to working closely with host communities in the Niger Delta to achieve enduring peace and economic progress. Group CEO, Mallam Mele Kyari, emphasized this during a dialogue session with Niger Delta communities, held in collaboration with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (South-South), Hon. Gift Johnbull. The event took place at Igurubia Square Ultra-Modern Town Hall, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

This session, which is part of ongoing citizen assembly engagements, serves as a precursor to the upcoming COP 29 Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, slated for November this year. Representing Kyari at the event, Mr. Sani Kabo, Head of Business Services at NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), highlighted the importance of the engagement in strengthening unity and fostering development through the Third Phase Amnesty Program.

Kyari stated that the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021 has allocated 3% of NNPC Ltd’s operational expenditures (OPEX) to community development projects. These projects, he noted, would be aligned with the priorities of the communities and focus on skills acquisition, empowerment, and sustainable livelihood initiatives.

“Our mission is clear. We are committed to fostering lasting peace, creating economic opportunities, and transforming the Niger Delta into a model of unity and progress,” Kyari concluded, reaffirming NNPC Ltd.’s commitment to promoting collaboration, trust, and development in the region.
